IN VITRO

In vitro fertilization

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is the most advanced method of treating infertility. We perform this procedure when other less complicated methods prove to be ineffective. The in vitro treatment process consists of several steps:

  • Ovarian Stimulation and Monitoring
  • Tests and visits
  • Ovarian puncture
  • Fertilization of the egg cell in laboratory conditions
  • Transfer of embryo to the uterus

The fertilization of the egg cells can be performed in a couple ways. At Klinika Bocian, we use all available methods of in vitro fertilization and procedures increasing the effectiveness of infertility treatment.

Classical in vitro fertilization

Classic in vitro fertilization entails the placing of egg cells in appropriate media containing prepared sperm for around 18 hours. After this time, fertilization occurs. Classic in vitro fertilization can be used by couples with good sperm parameters.

Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI)

The ICSI procedure involves direct microsurgical injection of sperm into the egg cytoplasm. The process of intracytoplasmic injection of sperm is performed by means of special laboratory equipment such as a microscope, needle or micromanipulators.

The ICSI procedure allows for bypassing all stages of natural gamete interaction and thus illuminating the majority of causes of childlessness caused by male reproductive abnormalities. As a result, intracytoplasmic sperm injection is used in infertility treatment with patients with low sperm parameters.

Intracytoplasmic Morphologically Selected Sperm Injection (IMSI)

The IMSI procedure is an enriched version of the ICSI procedure which consists in an initial morphological selection of sperm by means of a special optical microscope allowing for a magnification of 6000 times.

After the semen has been selected, the treatment process is identical as in the case of ICSI. Improving the laboratory stage in the IMSI procedure is significant for future parents as it increases the effectiveness of in vitro fertilization without additional tests and treatment.

Testicular Sperm Aspiration (TESA)

The TESA procedure is proceeded by a biopsy of the testicles in order to obtain semen which will then be used in the ICSI procedure.

Spindle View

The spindle view procedure is used in infertility treatment in order to increase the possibility of monitoring the intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) regardless of the positioning of the polar body, thanks to which the risk of damaging cells during micromanipulation is eliminated.

The spindle view also allows for monitoring the degree of maturity of the egg cell and establishing the thickness and density of the pellucida zone of the egg cell.

Assisted Hatching (AH)

Assisted hatching involves thinning or mechanically making a small hole in the pellucida zone surrounding the embryo. This procedure assists the embryo in leaving the pellucida zone which facilitates their implantation in the uterus.

Assisted hatching is used, among others, if the woman is over the age of 37 or in the case of hormonal disorder. Assisted hatching increases the effectiveness of the in vitro procedure, which is why we also recommend it to patients whose previous in vitro attempts have been unsuccessful.
